ABU DHABI, 24th August, 2026 (WAM) — Around 12,000 athletes from across the world are expected to compete in the 18th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship at Mubadala Arena from 9th to 21st November, with registrations continuing to rise.
Preparations are at an advanced stage, with the Organising Committee coordinating registration, accreditation, competition areas, warm-up facilities, medical services, crowd management, security and safety across the 13-day event.
Organisers are also working with relevant authorities and partners to ensure smooth operations throughout the championship.
The fan experience will feature expanded activities for families and children, alongside new initiatives and interactive experiences. The Fitness District and other popular features from previous editions will also return.
Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation and Chairman of the Championship Organising Committee, said the strong registration numbers reflect the event’s global standing.
He said, “The strong interest in registration shows the global standing of the championship. It also gives us a greater responsibility to continue improving the event and providing the best possible experience for athletes, academies and fans.”
He added that organisers are working closely with partners on security and safety, medical services, media operations and the fan experience, stressing the importance of early planning and coordination for an event running over 13 days.
Al Dhaheri said the championship has grown significantly over nearly two decades and has played an important role in strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a global capital of jiu-jitsu.
Mohammed Al Marzooqi, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation and Vice Chairman of the Championship Organising Committee, said preparations have moved into the implementation stage, with teams focused on operational readiness and coordination.
He added that responsibilities have been assigned across the organising teams, with clear processes in place to monitor preparations and ensure all areas are ready.
The championship will begin with Amateur competitions on 9th and 10th November, with Para Jiu-Jitsu taking place on 10th November.
Youth competitions will run from 11th to 13th November, followed by the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival for kids from 14th to 16th November.
Masters competitions will take place on 17th and 18th November, before the championship concludes with the Professional competitions from 19th to 21st November.
